As we look back on how Tumaini began — a simple act of faith of one family — I’m reminded that this movement has always grown because ordinary people said “yes.” Five sponsored children became fifty, then five hundred, and today more than 1,200 children each year are stepping into education, healthcare, and hope. That same grassroots spirit is still alive, and I believe it’s time to fan it into flame again.
I want to share a story close to my heart. I sponsor three brothers who were being raised by their mentally challenged mother. An older woman in their community took them all in even though she had nothing but a dirt hut and love to offer. When I first met the boys, the oldest looked exhausted and shell‑shocked, carrying far more than a child should. Today, he is thriving in junior high. His younger brothers are excited about school, proudly showing me things they’ve created with their own hands from the new curriculum. Their mother is receiving the healthcare she needs through Tumaini, and the entire family is flourishing. Sponsorship didn’t just change their lives, it changed the trajectory of their future.
Stories like theirs remind me that it truly takes a village. And sometimes that village looks like a Bible study group sponsoring a child together. Or a youth group, a classroom, a scout troop, an office team, or a small business deciding to rally around one child for a year. Maybe it’s hosting a yard sale, a bake sale, or even a birthday fundraiser to sponsor a child or support the Hope Fund. When we get creative, the possibilities multiply.
Right now, children are waiting — children just like the three brothers — and we have the chance to step in. If you feel stirred to sponsor a child, you can do that here.
If you’d prefer to give a one‑time gift to help us care for the most vulnerable children, you can give to the Hope Fund here.
Together, we can spark a fresh wave of hope — one child, one family, one act of generosity at a time.
With gratitude and hope,
Chris Buege
