“For sure I do not know how I can repay your [Tumaini} good job upon my life….kindly let me know how I can help impact the kids”. I received this message through social media from someone that I did not immediately recognize. I later learned that it was from one of our alumni. Mirriam works in Nairobi for Volk Lift East Africa, a Germany company, as the head of Procurement Department. Although she was still in college, she was reaching out to me to find ways of giving back to the organization that had given her hope since she was 13 years old. The last born in a family of five, Mirriam got sponsored, together with her elder brother. As I found out, by the time she was 7 years old, Mirriam had lost both parents and the children were left in a destitute situation under the care of their aging grandmother. Her grandmother sought help through Tumaini and that is when Mirriam begun her journey of hope and possibilities. After her grandmother passed on, one of her aunts became Mirriam’s guardian until she completed college.
Mirriam is a proud graduate of Mount Kenya University where she graduated with both a Diploma and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management (Procurement Option). Initially Mirriam had enrolled for a Diploma course and upon completion she got a job. However, she was determined to complete a degree course and enrolled in evening classes. She was able to successfully complete and graduate recently!
Mirriam has now joined the ranks of other alumni who have formed an association to give back to the organization in various ways. We congratulate her for her determination and dedication to reach her academic and professional goals. But Mirriam’s story is only possible because her Tumaini sponsors Neil and Sara invested in her education. She is a success story to her family and the community at large. Tumaini partners with guardians to pay for college expenses from our alumni fund. If you are able to donate TODAY, please designate it to this fund and give another college student an opportunity to realize their dreams.
I am grateful for your partnership for two decades now. Mirriam is an example of what you have helped us accomplish. In this new year, we have opportunities to bring hope to more vulnerable children like Mirriam. Thank you!
Eternally grateful,
Stanley Mutunga

Overall, the rise of the positivity rate has not resulted into high hospitalization and deaths compared to previous months.
There are no lockdowns for businesses or schools. In person learning continues in all schools across the country.
The Kenyan government has imposed mandatory proof of covid-19 vaccinations to all travelers entering the country. Both the vaccination card and a recent negative test results will need to be electronically posted in a central data base. We will share the details as they become available.
Tumaini will resume Vision Trips in 2022 so call us if you planning to participate
There is continued positive uptake of vaccines across the country.
Vaccines are available countrywide. Out of a population of fifty million people, a little over ten million have been partially vaccinated.
