A Typical Day for Sarah

A Typical Day for Sarah

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Do you sometimes wonder what a typical day looks like for your sponsored child in rural Kenya? Well, this week we will take you, some 10,000 miles to a small village in Masii, SE Kenya, just a few miles from our office to meet Sarah. Sarah is a 13-year-old girl with a big contagious smile. Sarah is the second-born child and the only girl in a family of four.  She is a bright 7th grader and loves learning.  When asked what she would like to pursue in higher education she was emphatic that she desires to become a doctor. And why not dream big, she is an excellent student and is poised to realize her academic dream.

So, what is her typical day like when she is not in school? During weekends and school holidays, Sarah helps her mother Ruth at home with myriads of domestic chores. Like most average families in rural Kenya, theirs is a home with simple structures. For example, they do not have many amenities that we take for granted, such as running water, indoor bathrooms, and showers, among others.  But they happily do with what they have. So, Sarah helps to withdraw water from the nearest point; hand-washes the family laundry, dishes and helps with cooking. She also helps pick green vegetables from their family farm for preparing organic meals.  Sarah even gets time to climb on their guava tree to harvest fruit for the family. The latter is both a chore but also considered a fun time for kids!

The family, however, does not have financial resources to pay for Sarah’s school-related expenses; medical care; supplementary food; Christian camp, and any emergencies that might arise.  This is where sponsorship plays a critical role in this family.  We are eternally grateful to Dennis and Karen for investing in the life of this promising girl. Both Sarah and Ruth shared their deep gratitude to Dennis and Karen for their prayer and financial support. I am blessed to know Dennis and Karen and how they feel blessed for the opportunity to support Sarah, among several other vulnerable children that they sponsor.

Over the past 20 years, I am grateful for the opportunity to see so many vulnerable children getting the hand-up to grow into their God-given dreams.  We have countless examples of success stories.  But we can create more. If you would like to sponsor a child and offer them tangible hope like Sarah has, please go online, or call us TODAY. It costs just $38 a month to bring transformational hope to a needy child.

As always, thank you for caring!
