The COVID-19 pandemic cases are going up steadily in Kenya. Indeed, cases have risen from 303 last week to 384 as of earlier today! Unfortunately, we are seeing an increase in the community spread in many regions across the country. The good news is that many COVID-19 patients in Kenya are recovering! Even though one death is one too many, to date there are only 14 confirmed COVID-19 related deaths. We continue to praise God that, to our knowledge, none of our sponsored children or staff have been infected by this virus. For those who may be hurting economically, or in health, we understand and our hearts and prayers go out to you all. May the Lord meet every need you have during these challenging times.
If you are able and would like to make a donation to our Hope Fund it will surely go a long way to help us in continuing to provide these life-saving services to the children that we serve and the vulnerable communities at large.
We are very grateful to everyone who donated to our Hope Fund to ensure that we can meet extra medical and educational expenses to serve some of the most vulnerable children and families. It is simply a privilege to serve! Additionally, we would like to thank The Sidewalk Project, a US charity organization that recently donated some masks for use at our medical clinic. Indeed, right now, our clinic is well stocked with the critical protective gear that we need. Truly grateful to you all! Our medical staff continues to provide exceptional service to the community. We are pleased that the clinic is well equipped with medicines and proper public health protocols. Six of our staff have been trained on how to diagnose and refer suspected COVID-19 patients. We are grateful for medical partnerships that are making these essential pieces of training possible.
This past weekend the government announced another 21 days of dawn to dusky curfew and partial lockdown in four major counties continues. Another major announcement is how all schools will remain closed at least until June. However, national exit exams for 8th and 12th-grade classes remain in place for the fall. Meanwhile, we continue to provide extra assistance to all the candidates as they continue to shelter in their homes.
Thank you for all you do,
Stanley Mutunga
