607 confirmed cases today
29 deaths
16 counties (equivalent to 1/3 of the country)
The community spread of COVID-19 is, unfortunately, worsening every day. Just within one week, the number has grown by almost 200 new cases! The government is doing its best to contain the situation but given the living conditions by the majority of Kenyans (just like many developing countries), it is humanly scary to imagine what could be on the horizon.
We at Tumaini are doing our best to serve the communities while observing the best protocols possible. Most institutions and businesses remain closed or partially closed. Still, the good news is that all of our staff, sponsored children and their immediate family members are safe. Some of our staff are working from home while others, especially those in leadership and our frontline medical staff, continue to work from their respective offices. We are grateful to God for His protection.
Thank you for standing with us during this unprecedented time in our lives. We are keeping you in our prayers for God’s protection. We are profoundly grateful to those who have donated to our Hope Fund in the past few weeks to make the steps we are taking possible. If you would like to make a donation to this fund please do so TODAY!
We must continue to meet these and any other recurring emergencies in the coming weeks and months.
To make virtual learning possible, we have purchased 19 basic smartphones, each costing $70, for the high school seniors who are Tumaini sponsored with the self-sponsored students being supplied by their parents. Apart from the phones, we will need roughly $500 each month to cover related expenses, mainly the internet, power, and other incidentals.
Also beginning this week, we are overly excited to announce the launch of a virtual learning component to our 12th-grade students attending Tumaini International Girls High School! This service will help students maintain contact learning time with teachers and ensure the completion of the set syllabus before they sit the national exit exam later in the year.
The government announced that schools will remain closed down until further notice. As we shared a few weeks ago, we continue to provide critical revision materials to our candidate classes, grades 8th, and 12th. Thank you for your financial support that has made this exercise possible! Beginning this month, we are extending the service to our freshman to junior classes attending our school, Tumaini International Girls High School.
Sincerely,
Stanley Mutunga
