Tumaini Response
COVID-19 Pandemic in Kenya
225 Confirmed cases
10 deaths
Though the numbers remain low compared to other parts of the world, the impact is huge for a developing nation like Kenya.
One of the areas where Tumaini has been most impactful is education. This is especially true for our 8th and 12th-grade students who have been studying for eight and four years respectively in preparation for their national exit exams in October and November. Earlier this week, the department of education announced that as of now, there was no plan to change the exam dates for this year. As an organization, we know how critical these exams are for they determine the students' educational and career opportunities. In the absence of online learning, we have decided to do something extra for our candidate students. We have embarked on buying and distributing study material and revision books to all 8th and 12th-grade students! We are grateful to our regional volunteers who have joined our staff in the distribution exercise to the student’s homes in the expansive counties where they live.
In total there are 186 students that we are reaching out to with these essential materials. This is an exercise we will continue to carry out as long as the schools remain closed indefinitely.
This major of an undertaking would not have been possible without your recent outpouring of prayer and financial support through our Hope Fund.
Our hearts and prayers go to you all, especially those who may have been impacted by the coronavirus in one way or the other.
Truly grateful for your amazing partnership.
