In a country where more than 60% of the population is under 35 and unemployment is a pressing issue, Tumaini is on a mission to channel the energy of idle youth into something productive and uplifting. Earlier this year, we launched the Tumaini Football Club in Masii, the town where our offices are based. This initiative, led by our socio-economic program and supported by our guidance and counseling departments, aims to engage young people through soccer while providing vital counseling and guidance they might not otherwise receive.
Starting with just five members, the club has now grown to a vibrant team of forty young men, with new members joining regularly. They gather three times a week for training and matches, occasionally inviting other local clubs for competitive games with small prizes for the winners. But the Tumaini Football Club is more than just a sports team. It serves as a platform for addressing crucial issues such as drug and substance abuse—a growing concern in Kenya. Our sessions also focus on mental wellness and offer practical skills in socio-economic and financial management.
This initiative is proving to be a powerful way for Tumaini to make a meaningful impact in the community. So, if you’re a soccer enthusiast planning a trip to Kenya, don’t forget to bring your cleats and join in the action! And if you’re inspired to support our work, you can make a donation to help support our critical programs for youth!
Thank you for partnering with us to bring hope and positive change to thousands of vulnerable children and youth in Kenya—one step at a time!
