Ruth’s story is one of them.
Ruth, a mother of four, remembers the years when life felt unbearably heavy. She was jobless, struggling to feed her children, and unable to keep them in school. Each term brought the same painful cycle—children sent home for school fees, dreams slipping further out of reach, and a mother forced to choose between education and a meal.
“There was a time when I could not sustain my children in school… providing food for the family was also a major challenge,” she recalls. Her children were bright, eager, and full of potential—but without support, their future was fading.
When Hope Arrived
In 2007, everything changed.
Tumaini International Trust enrolled her son John in Grade 5. Soon after, his siblings—Mary, Kelvin, and Lilian—joined the child sponsorship program as well. What began as a lifeline became a turning point for an entire family.
Through sponsorship, all four children received school fees, uniforms, food support, healthcare, and the stability they needed to stay in school. Tumaini didn’t just meet immediate needs—it opened doors to possibility, dignity, and long‑term growth.

Today, Ruth’s children are thriving:
Mary — an automotive engineer on the Kenyan Coast. She fondly remembers participating in Tumaini Unlimited (TUBE) camps, which she says were among her most memorable experiences.
John — a registered nurse serving in a private hospital. Child sponsorship helped transform his childhood dream into a career in nursing.
Lilian — after finishing high school, she benefited from Tumaini’s socio‑economic empowerment program, gaining training in beauty technology that allowed her to build an independent livelihood.
Kelvin — after struggling with a long‑standing health condition, he received critical treatment through Tumaini’s healthcare program. Today, he is a teacher, giving back through education.
