Dear Tumaini Friend,
Before Ruth became a confident beauty therapist, a business owner, a wife, and a mother, she was a young girl on the verge of dropping out of school. Her single father was doing everything he could, but it wasn’t enough. The future felt fragile—until someone stepped in and said, “I will help.”
Growing up under the care of her father, the sole-provider and caretaker, Ruth and her siblings faced constant hardship. School was never guaranteed. Each term brought the fear of being sent home because fees couldn’t be paid. Basic needs were a daily struggle.
“Life was hard, and we could barely stay in school because my dad could not sustain us in school. Tumaini learned about our plight and stepped in to offer a future and a hope. My siblings and I got sponsored, and life changed.”
Child sponsorship bridged the gap. It kept Ruth and her siblings in school. It gave them stability, the confidence of a brighter future, and the chance to dream.
After completing her education, Ruth discovered her passion for beauty therapy. She dreamed of starting her own business, but like many young people, she lacked the capital to begin.
Tumaini’s socio-economic empowerment program stepped in once again. Through a Tumaini's socio-economic alumni loan, Ruth launched her beauty therapy business—turning her skill into a livelihood.
Today, Ruth is a thriving beauty therapist, entrepreneur, wife, and mother. Her business provides for her family. Her stability is the direct fruit of someone choosing to stand in the gap years ago.
“I am grateful because I can now support my family through my business.”
Ruth’s journey has come full circle—from a vulnerable child struggling to stay in school to a confident, empowered woman building a future for her own family. Her story is a reminder that child sponsorship is not charity. It is transformation. It is generational impact.
Tumaini’s fast approaching Rooted In Hope gala — centered on child sponsorship — celebrates stories like Ruth’s. They show us what is possible when a child is given the chance to learn, grow, and thrive.
One sponsorship changed Ruth’s life. One family empowered for generations. One community strengthened through opportunity.
This is the impact you make possible.
As we celebrate 25 years of impact, we look forward to continued transformation. You can play an important role in that process. Help another child begin their journey of hope through child sponsorship or give a one-time gift to the Hope Fund.

No child should have to live in fear of being sent home because fees couldn’t be paid or wonder if there will be a meal for them today.
