Nancy: An Impactful Partnership

Nancy is grateful for the partnership with Tumaini that has helped her raise her son, Samuel. Nancy learned about Tumaini through her church when she was struggling to raise her two sons. Tumaini intervened and her youngest son Samuel, now in grade nine, was sponsored by Dowell & Katherine

Samuel’s sponsorship enabled Nancy to start a small retail business in the growing city of Machakos that then allowed her to supplement the family’s income. During a recent visit, Nancy was excited to share how Tumaini’s support for Samuel made it possible for her to make life better for her entire family. “Since Tumaini caters for my child’s school fees and medication, I work hard to make sure that the family has food to eat every day and clothes to wear. I am grateful that Tumaini came through for me and partnered with me to help raise my kids.”  Through her small business, Nancy makes $150 in weekly profit and this income makes it possible to meet her basic needs. Nancy is grateful to Dowell and Katherine for sponsoring her son so that he can achieve his dreams.

Nancy’s success story is an example of how sponsorship enables many guardians to focus their efforts on complimentary socio-economic activities to lift the family out of extreme poverty. Thank you, Dowell and Katherine, for giving Nancy a hand-up! Thank you to everyone who has partnered with widows and guardians of vulnerable children to give them a hand up and thus lifting entire families from extreme poverty. Stories like Nancy’s are emerging across the regions where we serve and we are grateful to everyone who has made them possible.
