As we celebrate 25 years of hope in Kenya, we’re reminded that lasting change begins at the grassroots — in the hands of trusted local leaders who know their communities and care deeply for their people.
Today, we’re highlighting the Kenya Reading Journey (KRJ), a year‑long leadership program launched by Patrick, one of our partners in Southeast Kenya. KRJ equips chiefs, assistant chiefs, police officers, and children’s officers to protect girls, strengthen families, and challenge harmful traditions.
The impact has been remarkable:
84 administrators trained
200,000+ community members reached with child‑protection and gender‑equality messages
1,200+ community dialogues held
200+ girls rescued from child marriage, child labor, and abuse
These aren’t just numbers — they’re lives rewritten because a local leader chose to step in, speak up, and act.
KRJ graduates are now launching their own initiatives to support girls’ education and build safer, more resilient communities. And again and again, one need rises to the surface: education. When a child stays in school — especially a girl — her world opens.
This is why child sponsorship remains at the heart of Tumaini’s mission. Sponsorship keeps children safe, supported, and in school, where hope takes root and grows.
