Vision Trips to Kenya are back on! This summer we had several teams and individuals who came and volunteered in a variety of ways—teaching crafts at Tumaini girls’ high school, helping during the medical outreach day, doing home and church visits and more. Justin’s team was one such team. Among other activities, they made a huge donation to provide solar water heaters at Tumaini Girls High School as well as build several houses for needy families. One of the neediest families that they built a house for was Elizabeth’s. The 42-year-old mother of eight children has been on our waitlist for house construction ever since we sponsored her children a couple of years ago. When Tumaini first visited Elizabeth’s home, extreme poverty was palpable. The family lacked most of the basic supplies to stay afloat. Indeed, this was one of the families that even her poor neighbors tried to assist but it did not seem to make any lasting difference. Elizabeth recently narrated how life was before the construction of their beautiful new house. “Some of my children used to sleep on the floor because we had one bed, and we could not sleep there all of us. Due to the condition of the dilapidated temporary house, we used to be rained on during rainy season.”
We thank God for Justin’s team because when we shared about this family’s needs, they immediately swung to action. They not only donated the funds to build the house but also participated in its completion and furnishing. Today, Elizabeth is a happy mother. She was overjoyed after the house was completed. Said she: “I am happy that now my children are safe, we are able to eat dinner from one table. My children can study and do their school homework comfortably.”
Vision Trips provide unlimited opportunities to partner with Tumaini and make a lasting difference as we see in Elizabeth’s case. There are opportunities to volunteer during our medical outreach and at Tumaini Mission Hospital (if you are a medical professional), and so many more. It is not too early to begin planning for next year’s summer vision trips. Feel free to contact us if are interested and have any questions or concerns.
Thank you for your partnerships in turning many sad stories into stories of joy, triumph, and transformation.
Eternally grateful,
