Bringing Hope…Beyond Child Sponsorship

"My husband Philip is just a casual worker [day laborer] and getting the medicines was a problem. Sometimes I could hardly get them…. but I thank God that through Tumaini, I was able to get funds for the medicine," shared Esther, in a recent interview.

Esther, a 35-year-old mother of three was introduced to Tumaini early last year.  A visit to the family discovered that the family was not only struggling to provide for their three beautiful children, but Esther was dealing with a scary liver disease. When we first shared this family's dire situation, you responded immediately. Thanks to Elsa who took in Newton, their oldest son for sponsorship, and Joe & Dai who sponsored the couple's two beautiful daughters, Cynthia, and Mary.

Back to Esther's medical situation.  At the time of starting the sponsorship, Esther and Philip could not afford to purchase her life-sustaining medicines that cost $60 per month. Also, she needed a lifesaving operation, but the family was not able to raise the $2,500 needed for the operation.  Thanks to you for your generous donations to our Hope Fund which enabled Tumaini to make a significant contribution towards Esther's surgery. Through our medical clinic, we were able to make a referral for Esther at the nation's main referral hospital for the procedure. Esther and her family are grateful because Tumaini has brought hope to the entire family. She had this to say, " I am grateful to Tumaini and all other well-wishers for their cheerful support…. I also want to thank God for giving me another chance in my life."

Thank you for participating in a lifesaving effort. Your generous donations to our Hope Fund meet many dire needs that we cannot appeal to you every time there is a huge need.  Thank you! If you would like to donate to our Hope Fund, please do so TODAY.  You can donate by going online or sending a designated donation.

Thank you for changing the lives of one child, one family, one village at a time.
Always grateful for your generosity,

Sincerely,

COVID-19 Update:

As of Wednesday, April 7, 2021

  • This week the daily positivity rate is averaging at 13% as the third wave rages on.

  • Schools remain closed across the country for in-person learning, except for the 12th-grade class students who are taking their national exit exam.

  • With the students now staying at home for an indefinite period, this creates a myriad of social and economic challenges. Pray for wisdom as we handle this situation.

  • There is a partial lockdown affecting 5 counties (out of 47) that have been impacted the most by the current third wave. People within the 5 counties can only move within and those of other counties are not allowed in. While the move is understandable, it is causing major economic challenges throughout the country.

  • There were 5,784 new positive cases, still a sharp increase from last week bringing the total so far to 139,842.

  • Nightly curfews continue from 8:00 to 4:00 am and are extended for another two months.

  • 325,592 people have been vaccinated so far, a modestly good start.

We continue to thank God for His protection. All the children and the families that we support remain safe. Our staff is all doing well and continuing to serve.
