Giving Hope Through Healthy Nutrition
As I write this Hope Note, I realize that for many of you, this has been an emotionally tough week. First, the impact of the pandemic and now the countrywide protests occasioned by the death of George Floyd. Whether you are directly or indirectly impacted, I want to recognize the fact that there is pain and concern among many and I will uplift all of you in my prayers. I am humbled that despite your own challenges, you have continued to be carriers of hope to thousands of people in Kenya through your prayers and financial support. Thank you!
Today, I am excited to highlight the nutritional services carried out at our medical clinic. Grandmother Esther’s testimony illustrates the impact of these services on our sponsored children and the community at large:
“ I started feeling sickly 12 years ago and I was admitted to several hospitals in different counties in Kenya and after several examinations, I was diagnosed with hypertension”, says 75-year-old Esther who has since then been visiting Tumaini Medical Clinic mostly for nutritional management.
“I met Doctor [Nutritionist] Ruth in 2013 and she advised me on what to eat and what not to eat. I followed her advice and my condition improved very much. I want to thank the doctors in this clinic for the good work of helping those in need. Tumaini has done very much to me and what I request is the introduction of admission wards so that many needy people can be helped,” says the thankful Esther.
Ruth, a Tumaini alum, has been doing a great job attending to patients on dietary matters. Her patients include those with diabetes, high blood pressure, hypertension, anemia, peptic ulcers, bacterial diseases, and obesity. Ruth also attends to children below 5 years old on nutritional assessment, weight, height, and more. Other patients that require special meals include our sponsored children, especially those who are HIV positive. In 2019, Ruth saw an average of 117 patients a month seeking assistance in this critical part of service.
Thank you to those who donate specifically to support our medical clinic. This facility has been a beacon of hope to our Tumaini family and the surrounding communities around the Masii region. If you would like to donate to support our mobile work, please do so TODAY. We have clearly seen relieving people of their pain and advising them on the right nutrition is a great way of providing hope to a poor community.
Sincerely,
Stanley Mutunga

Today’s COVID-19 Update:
2340 confirmed cases (increased by 722 in one week)
78 deaths
36 counties (We are especially alarmed by the spread to the poorest neighborhoods)
We continue to serve the children and their families and are grateful that no Tumaini sponsored children, families, and staff have gotten sick. Praise God!
