Child Sponsorship
Adopt-a-Village Model
Over the past couple of years, Tumaini has been transitioning from sponsoring children in isolated areas to a more focused "village" approach. We identify poverty levels in villages, towns, and wards through baseline surveys, and once needs have been identified, we intake needy children within a few mile radius. This new approach is not only logistically more efficient for service delivery, but it is also cost-effective. The proximity of sponsored children makes it easier for vision teams and foundation representatives to do home or community visits when they come on-site. Perhaps more importantly, this model allows for a bigger impact in one village instead of being spread too thin.
Last week, we adopted Kitise-Kithuki Ward of Makueni County. We began with an initial sponsorship of 50 vulnerable children thanks to one of our partner foundations who funded this initiative. Kitise-Kithuki Ward lies in the arid zone of South-East Kenya where the residents of this area mainly live on subsistence farming. Due to the persistent drought, residents are faced with water shortages, food insecurity, low crop yields, and famine. Some residents walk for 4 ½ miles one way to get water for their animals and domestic use. Naturally, these economic conditions make access and affordability to education and healthcare virtually impossible, especially to the most vulnerable children and their families.
The people of Kitise-Kithuki Ward were grateful that their 50 vulnerable children were given hope. As one of the guardians observed, "We thank Tumaini for we know now our kids will have equal opportunity with kids from other counties in our high schools for their better tomorrow."
Once we adopt a village or ward, we bring all the services to the village: education, healthcare, spiritual nurture, psychosocial support, socio-economic programs, and more. We are grateful to foundations and church partners that have expressed interest or have already partnered with us to impact the lives of the vulnerable children and communities, one village, one ward, or one town at a time.
If you or your church, group or foundation would like to adopt a village, town, or ward, please contact us TODAY and we will work on the logistics.
Thank you for your amazing partnership. Thank you for bringing hope to the vulnerable children, one village, one ward, one town at a time.
Sincerely,
