Alumni Providing Local Solutions to COVID-19
I love their enthusiasm! Janet, Jackline, and Eunice are budding entrepreneurs who are providing an important service to our Tumaini International sponsored children and their guardians as well as the surrounding communities. In the wake of COVID-19, the government is enforcing a health department recommendation of wearing masks in public to curb the community spread of the coronavirus. When we decided to provide masks to the kids and their caretakers we turned to this ambitious trio. Operating from a small front shop, these Tumaini alumni are making some 2000 masks this week to ensure that we cover the children and their primary caregivers.
Meanwhile, the effects of COVID-19 continue to be felt in half of the country now. Indeed, the number of confirmed cases has gone up from 781 last week (Thursday) to 1,109 as of today-a significant increase within a week. Earlier today, the Health Department made this grim prediction: “We project now, our peak will be around August-September in which case, we will be reporting about 200 plus cases per day, that is if we continue with the measures and interventions that we have put in place today." I sure pray that they are wrong, but we are doing what we can to be safe. Meanwhile, the health and economic impact are taking a toll countrywide and it is unimaginable how things will turn out if the lockdowns and curfews continue for that long. Still, the good news is that all of our sponsored children and their families, our staff, and their families are safe, even those who live in some of the most affected counties. Thank you for your prayers!
Thank you for your financial support. Your contribution has made an immediate impact. We have been able to provide additional school supplies especially to our candidate students; virtual learning to our girls' high school candidates, protective gear for our medical staff, food for families that need it, and much more. Now we are embarking on providing masks. If you would like to send a donation to our Hope Fund to keep the work going, please do so.
