A Pastor with a Big Heart
Jackline (15 years old) was rescued by Pastor Tabitha and her husband in December 2023. Jackline had been left alone to fend for herself after her mother disappeared. The mother struggles with mental health and no one knows her whereabouts. When Tabitha and her husband heard about the girl’s plight, they welcomed her into their home. Tabitha is the breadwinner and has two children of her own, living on a very small income. They have offered Jackline a home and have committed to meeting her basic needs. However, Tabitha is unable to pay school fees for Jackline. Despite some challenges that she has gone through, (including missing many school days), Jackline loves learning. She is in 7th grade and hoping to go on to high school and find a career in the future.
Tabitha came to our office looking for help to raise this girl. This is how she explained the situation: ”Jackline is a child who has been through a lot. I sat down with her, and she explained to me how she wished that her mother could care for her and give her a good life so that she could study well and work hard. She wants to better her own life and the life of her mother as well.”
Lilian’s Plea
Lilian is a 36-year-old widow and a mother of three children: Brian (who has aged out of the program), 9-year-old Elizabeth and the last born, 4-year-old Kelvin. Lilian has no formal job and is struggling to take care of her children. Like many of her neighbors in their village, Lilian is a subsistence farmer, and they rely on very inconsistent rain. She is calling for help to enable her to support her kids in school. The kids are always in and out of school due to unpaid school dues. Lilian’s plea: "I am the bread winner, and jobs are not always available …so when I do not get any job, my kids are without a meal.”
