Exciting news from Parkcrest Christian Church! Their partnership with Tumaini began 18 years ago in Long Beach, California, sponsoring over two hundred vulnerable children and generously donating towards Tumaini’s first major project, Parkcrest Hall. Later, they funded much of our walk-in medical clinic, now serving thousands through Tumaini Mission Hospital in southeastern Kenya. This week marked another milestone in our ministry partnership. On Wednesday, we launched The Wilkins Center in Kolewa Village, Kilifi County, on the coast of Kenya.
This multi-purpose facility is named in memory of Jared Wilkins, who served as pastor at Parkcrest Christian Church. Jared passionately supported Parkcrest’s work in Kenya and played a key role in the church’s adoption of Kolewa Village as their next major project. This dedication has truly been a dream come true as we celebrated alongside church representatives and Shauna and Makena Wilkins, who traveled from North Carolina to witness this momentous occasion.
The Wilkins Center will serve as an oasis for the village, hosting a new church (Kolewa Christian Chapel), a medical center, and an after-school program venue for vulnerable children. Immediately after the launch, our medical team from Tumaini Mission Hospital, along with local volunteers from the coastal region, treated 415 patients and dewormed 124 children. As often happens, we were unable to see all the patients seeking treatment, highlighting the urgent healthcare needs in the region. We eagerly anticipate continuing our service in healthcare, education, and socio-economic development.
We are proud to announce that our sister organization, Christian Chapel Kenya, is working with Tumaini to establish a church in this village. During the launch, three people committed their lives to Christ! We are deeply grateful to Parkcrest Christian Church for their enduring impact on the lives of hundreds of vulnerable children and their families. Their focused impact on Kolewa Village serves as a notable example of how one church can deeply affect the developing world. We eagerly welcome other churches interested in partnering with us to adopt villages and serve vulnerable communities across Kenya.
