Caroline is a 20-year-old student pursuing Clinical Medicine and Surgery at Methodist University in Kenya. She is grateful for the opportunity that she got because of sponsorship through Tumaini. She has especially never forgotten the huge role that her sponsors, Jim and Sandra, played in her formative years. They began sponsoring Caroline since she was in grade 3 in 2011 through completion of her high school studies. Apart from supporting her at school, camps and meeting other basic needs, Jim and Sandra gave Caroline a cow and two chickens. These gifts have since made an enormous difference in Caroline’s life. She recently narrated, with joy, what the animals have meant for her and her aunt financially: ‘’The cow gave birth to two male calves and one female, of which I sold the bulls together with the mother cow and maintained the female cow. The latter has now given birth to other two calves. On the other hand, the chickens have produced up to the eighth generation.” Caroline explained that she earns $2 daily from the sale of milk and those funds help her with her upkeep at school. What’s more, her aunt gets enough eggs to feed her family.
