In 2015, Tumaini International Schools opened its doors with a profound mission—to bridge the gap in education access for vulnerable children in the community and the broader region. The initiative began with 36 girls, majority of whom benefited from Tumaini's sponsorship and scholarship programs, ensuring that education was not just a dream but a tangible reality for those who needed it most.
With a team of dedicated educators passionate about transforming lives through learning, Tumaini’s first class proved to be a remarkable success: 60% of the 2014 cohort qualified for tertiary education, marking the beginning of a legacy of empowerment. Over the years, the school has demonstrated remarkable progress in both academic excellence and co-curricular achievements. Tumaini students have earned recognition at regional and national levels in drama and music competitions—evidence of the institution's commitment to nurturing all-rounded individuals who are prepared to take ownership of their futures and pursue their dreams.
As the world continues to evolve, so does the education landscape. Kenya’s recent transition to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) which offers a holistic and learner-centered academic journey has necessitated significant changes within Tumaini’s approach to learning to accommodate the shift. This saw the early learning and Elementary levels being launched early in the year 2024 and now operational in the schools in this paradigm shift:
Kindergarten to Pre-primary (Early Learning) – Children are introduced to foundational skills such as letter recognition, basic drawing, coloring, and art.
Elementary Level (Grade 1-6) – Learners engage in a broad spectrum of subjects, including mathematics, science, and art, ensuring a well-balanced foundation.
Junior Secondary (Grade 7-9) – A phase designed for self-reflection and talent identification, where teachers guide students in nurturing their unique skills and passions.
Senior High School (Grade 10-12) – Learners specialize in their chosen fields, equipping them with the knowledge and competencies needed for tertiary education and professional careers.
The CBC approach shifted from a purely theoretical academic focus to one that cultivates practical skills and talent development from an early age. This transformation aligns seamlessly with Tumaini International's enduring mission—empowering young minds with the tools they need to shape their futures.
Today, Tumaini International schools remain a beacon of hope, not just for its immediate community but for students from across Kenya who seek an opportunity for quality education. The institution’s continued growth and expansion to other levels of learning have fostered greater inclusivity and accessibility, ensuring that more children can benefit from the power of education. We believe that true empowerment begins with knowledge. By making education accessible, equipping learners with practical skills, and fostering resilience, we pave the way for a generation that will not only dream but achieve. Education is the foundation upon which lives are rebuilt, opportunities are created, and communities are transformed—and we are proud to be at the heart of that journey.
