A GRATEFUL ENTREPRENEUR

“I could not believe that my education was fully sponsored and my future re-assured. Tumaini sponsored my education from primary (Elementary) level through completion of university”, said Benson, today a young entrepreneur. Benson’s life has changed for the better and he has never forgotten the impact that Tumaini has had on his life. Benson and his sister lost their mother in 2004 and their father in 2010 and were taken in as destitute orphans by their grandparents, who needed financial assistance themselves. A year after their father’s passing, Benson was sponsored by Tumaini and as he put it, “his life changed drastically”.  Benson was sponsored by Pathway Christian Church (Riverside, CA) through completion of high school. He performed exceptionally well in the 12th grade exit exam and was supported in university through our alumni fund. He got admission to Chuka University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree,  specializing in Procurement. However, due to the prevailing high unemployment, Benson didn’t get a job immediately. Instead, he pursued work in the furniture industry, which he says was always his passion. That is when he opened a small furniture stall but soon realized that he needed more capital to purchase critical equipment to grow his business. He secured a $400 low interest rate loan through Tumaini’s microfinance program. Benson was thrilled to say that he is now making an average of $250 in revenue per month!  This is a great start, and we are so happy for Benson.  He had this to say recently, “Currently I have good equipment and can handle bulk orders from my customers in Embu County.  I am using the skills earned in my procurement degree to ensure that I have enough inputs in terms of materials and timely deliveries to my customers.”  As he concluded his interview, Benson added the following: “To the alumni who are fresh from the colleges and universities, work hard and trust that the process pays off. Above all, put God first. To all the sponsors who are investing in the vulnerable children, thank you very much for trusting in us, may God bless you abundantly.’’

Thank you, Pathway Christian Church, and everyone who donates to our alumni fund.  You changed the life of Benson and therefore his family and community. Together we have changed the lives of many Bensons. Thank you! But the work is not done yet. Eternally grateful to you all,
