Meet Susan,
What do you do at Tumaini?
I am the U.S. Program Director which means I handle most of the sponsor and sponsored child communications, donations and events in the U.S.
How did you get involved with Tumaini International?
I heard about Tumaini when I was on staff at Parkcrest Church but began volunteering while I was a teacher. That volunteering led me to a position here.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I get to connect with some of the best people in the world…literally. Our sponsors are some of the most generous, kind hearted individuals who inspire me daily. I get to see photos and hear stories about the kids we support. Last but not least, the staff and people of Kenya are the most genuinely joyful people I have ever met.
Where are you likely to be spotted outside of work?
Somewhere seeing live music … mostly punk rock. I am energized by the talent of musicians and have met an eclectic group of people that have become friends. No matter how diverse we may be … music is a great connector that way.
What can you not live without?
Basic black coffee… one or two cups to start the day!
If you had an all-expenses-paid weeklong vacation where would you go?
Somewhere tropical and exotic … like Bora Bora.
